It’s a very dance oriented beginning, very upbeat and almost something you might hear on a “ Disney” tween record perhaps, (not that I would truly know what that would sound like, but go with me on this as it is pertinent later on)! So backing up, I have to admit that not being a huge dance music fan, I was worried once the first verse got rolling.

It felt like “Cameo Lover”was Yang to “Settle Down”s Yin. Shades of dark and light, juxtaposing themselves, only the other way round from the previous song. The song is structured emotionally almost the same way “Settle Down” is, only this time the motivating emotion is geared in the direction of being cheerful instead of dour and perhaps ,(again), naively thinking that she can persuade or manipulate him to be with her. In general “Cameo Lover” is about our protagonist, ( Kimbra/hybrid), once again addressing the object of her affection, but this time with the offer to save him from himself and his demons, (having turned her own demons away after embarrassing herself in “Settle Down”). This song was the most surprising to me and continues to reverberate almost daily in my head at some point, like a lotus blossom or some kind of sweet malady, (melody?!), that one is now infected with. “Tan”, (Phil Tan), mixes to sink in as I am so enamored of the original album! More on that later… I digress…I am good at digressing)! As it was the Aussie/NZ mixes I had heard first, it may take me a few more listens to let the U.S. version, (though it does seem the percussive elements are a bit more forward than the import mixes in general for the U.S. “Cameo Lover” is the second song from the Aussie/NZ import album and for the most part there are few differences between the import vinyl/CD and the U.S. Every record is shipped in original factory-applied shrink wrap and has never been touched by human hands.So after dusting myself off from the splendor of “Settle Down”, I searched out more of this “Kimbra” via the interwebs! Again, like most, I found both the “Settle Down” and “Cameo Lover” videos as well as a plethora of other stuff, so I was off! (more on the videos for this album in a future post as they inform the album concepts even further).
